Srliya 52mm Spindle Motor Mount

What the mount is, in short:

A moulded Z carriage flexes a little under load. With a 775 on light passes that flex rarely shows, but a heavier 52 mm spindle and deeper cuts expose it as chatter and wavy walls. A metal carriage holds the motor firmly, and Srliya names more stability and less noise as the result.

The mount is one step on a clear path: metal Z first, then a bigger spindle, then a stiffer frame if the work keeps growing.

Jobs that improve with the swap:

• Walnut and oak relief: deeper roughing passes before a ball-nose finish.
• Aluminium facing: light, wide passes across soft aluminium plate with a single-flute bit.
• Thick plywood cutouts: 12 mm and 18 mm sheet with fewer stalls at corners.
• Acrylic panels: steadier speed under load, so edges melt less.

Speed control changes too. A 52 mm spindle usually has its own controller, and the 3018 board either switches it or sends a PWM signal to it. Match the GRBL maximum spindle setting to the spindle's real top speed, so S commands land where expected.

Dust changes with the spindle as well. A 52 mm motor with a larger bit throws more chips, faster, so a 52 mm dust shoe becomes worth fitting soon after the swap.

The frame still matters. A 52 mm spindle on a moulded gantry is better than a 775, but short of an all-metal 500W machine.

1. Power off, remove the spindle, and unplug the Z motor and any Z switch cable.
2. Photograph the old carriage from the front and back, then unbolt it from the gantry.
3. Transfer the Z motor and lead screw, as the new carriage's layout requires.
4. Bolt the Srliya carriage to the gantry, move it by hand along X and check it runs freely.
5. Clamp the 52 mm spindle, connect the Z limit switch and power up.

The pre-installed limit switch only helps if the board reads it. Plug it into the Z limit input and test it by jogging Z upward slowly and pressing the switch by hand. If homing is enabled, run a single Z home cycle before a full homing run.

• Route the spindle cable so it cannot catch on the gantry at full travel.
• Recheck clamp and carriage screws after the first hour of cutting.
• Keep the old carriage in case the machine needs to go back to a 775.

A 52 mm spindle adds weight to the gantry, so reduce rapid speeds if the machine starts to lose steps. Limit switch wiring and homing are also covered in the upgrades order.
