Genmitsu 3018-PROVer V2 Y-Axis Extension Kit

That turns a 3018 into a 3040. X stays at 300 mm because the gantry is untouched, so the new shape is long and narrow: a bed built for boards, strips and rows of parts rather than big squares.

Work that fits once the kit is in:

• Walnut and maple cutting boards: a 380 mm board with a juice groove and a carved handle in one clamping.
• Street-number plaques: cedar planks long enough for four or five digits without re-zeroing.
• Guitar and ukulele templates: MDF or acrylic templates that ran off the end of the stock bed.
• Batches: two or three times the coasters, keyrings or PCB blanks per run.

The V2 matters here. The PROVer V2 ships with its gantry and one-piece aluminium spoilboard pre-assembled, and its frame is all metal. Genmitsu says the kit keeps the machine as stable as it was, which fits a design where the new parts bolt into the same metal structure.

A longer bed also changes how you plan a sheet. Stock sold in 300 × 400 mm or 12 × 16 inch pieces now fits whole, so there is less cutting down before the machine gets it.

For the machine itself, the 3018-PROVer V2 entry lists its spindle and frame, and the Genmitsu 3018 line explains how the V2 differs from the 3018-PRO.

1. Home or jog the bed to the middle, power down, and unplug the controller.
2. Photograph the Y motor and limit switch wiring before disconnecting anything.
3. Remove the spoilboard and the Y axis parts the guide lists for replacement.
4. Fit the longer Y parts and set the frame square with a set square across the corners.
5. Refit the bed and push it by hand end to end. It should roll evenly with no tight spot.
6. Reconnect and re-route cables with slack for the extra length.

Cables are the usual snag. The Y motor and Y limit switch sit further from the controller after the rebuild, so check that each lead reaches with the bed at both ends of travel before tightening the last cable tie.

Two things to settle in software afterwards:

• GRBL setting 131, the Y max travel in millimetres: raise it to the travel you can jog, so homing and soft limits know about the new length.
• CAM bed size: set the machine to 300 × 400 mm in Carveco, Easel or Fusion 360 so long toolpaths are not flagged or clipped.

Steps per millimetre stay as they were, since the drive geometry is unchanged. If a test square comes out the right size in X but not in Y, recheck the lead screw coupling before touching settings.

The two travel figures differ because a bed takes room. Once the spoilboard, its mounts and clamps are on, Genmitsu quotes 400 mm of effective travel and a 300 × 400 mm XY work area. Plan jobs to 400 mm, not 420.

The spoilboard's mounting is the clever part. Genmitsu joins it to the polished rail with 4 mm sheet-metal connectors instead of stacking it on top, which keeps the bed low. The point is Z travel: a bed that sits higher eats into the room under the spindle, and the connector design avoids that.

• Material: aluminium alloy, flat and stiff enough to hold jigs.
• Holes: pre-drilled, so most clamp systems bolt straight down.
• Weight: 5.7 lb, which the Y motor now carries with every move.

Workholding across 400 mm needs more points than the stock bed did. A long board wants a clamp near each corner and one in the middle, and a PETG clamp kit drawn for the V2 or a set of Genmitsu T-track hold-downs covers that.

The two Genmitsu kits look alike in photos and share the 3040 name, so the machine name on the box is the thing to read. A V2 kit on a 3018-PRO, or the reverse, will not bolt up.

Extending the V2 keeps its spindle, controller and everything you have learned about it. A 4040 machine adds width as well as length, and a frame built for metal and acrylic from the start. It also means a second machine to learn, wire and find room for.

Checks before ordering:

• Your machine is a PROVer V2, not the earlier PROVer or the 3018-PRO.
• You have space for the deeper frame front to back.
• You have a bed plan: the bundle, or your own 3040 spoilboard.
• You have enough clamps for a 400 mm board.
